Welcome to Honestly Hungry, yet another food blog.
So – where did this name, Honestly Hungry, come from? For five years, I’ve been yo-yo-ing with my health and wellness. I’ve been out of touch with my hunger levels, with the foods that my body needs and craves, with my self love, and with my relationship to intentional exercise and movement.
Ironically, long before these unhealthy habits were formed, I fell in love with food — cooking it, watching it be made, reading about it, collecting cookbooks, trying new recipes, and experimenting with my own. Sometimes I cannot believe how happy it makes me to cook. I’m a creative person, but I’ve never really found an outlet to express my creativity that I both liked and was good at (because let’s face it, everybody wants to be good at something) – until I started cooking.
What’s so amazing about cooking is that you take these medias, these ingredients, mix them together accordingly or even haphazardly. The end product is edible; it is something that was not there before you chopped or sauteed or plated. It’s new and yours and the best part is that you can eat it. You eat your art. How amazing is that? Cooks are artists and our creations nourish our audiences. Literally. The works of art we create physically nourish the people who engage with, experience, and eat our art.
So — to answer the question “Why the name ‘Honestly Hungry?'” It’s my philosophy to eat mindfully and live a balanced life. I’ve wanted to start a blog for years – YEARS! But a major factor holding me back was a name. Yes, I realize how silly of a reason that is, but a good, solid name was very important to me. I couldn’t decide on the perfect name, until recently, when I walked into my kitchen to get a snack and asked myself (with love and mindfulness) if I was honestly hungry.
And it clicked.
Thank you for giving this first post a read. I hope that you’ll continue to follow my blogging journey, discover new recipes, and appreciate food and cooking along with me.
